Macular Hole & Epiretinal Membrane Surgeries

Precision Surgery. Restoring Central Vision.

Advanced Retinal Care for Sharper Sight.

At Core Vision – A Speciality Eye Clinic, led by Dr. Aneri Shah Ambani (MS Ophthal. – Gold Medalist, FVRS, FICO UK) and Dr. Rushil Ambani (MS Ophthal., FCRS, FICO – Harvard, USA), we perform Macular Hole and Epiretinal Membrane Surgeries to restore visual clarity and central focus affected by retinal distortions. Utilizing modern vitrectomy techniques and fine membrane peeling, we ensure precise surgical outcomes and lasting visual recovery.

What are Macular Hole and Epiretinal Membrane?

The macula is the central part of the retina responsible for detailed vision like reading and recognizing faces. A Macular Hole is a small break in this delicate area, leading to blurred or distorted central vision.
An Epiretinal Membrane (ERM) is a thin, scar-like layer that forms on the macula’s surface, causing wrinkling or distortion. Both conditions can interfere with daily visual tasks, but modern vitreoretinal surgery offers excellent chances for vision restoration.

When Are These Surgeries Needed?

You may require surgery if you experience :

Distorted or blurred central vision

Straight lines appearing wavy

Difficulty reading or recognizing faces

OCT findings showing a macular hole or dense epiretinal membrane

Pars Plana Vitrectomy (PPV)

Removes the vitreous gel to relieve traction on the retina.

Internal Limiting Membrane (ILM) Peeling

Carefully removes a thin retinal layer to allow the macula to heal.

Gas Tamponade

A gas bubble is placed inside the eye to help close the macular hole effectively.

Recovery & Results

Most patients experience gradual visual improvement over weeks to months as the retina heals. Temporary positioning, such as maintaining a face-down posture, may be advised to aid recovery. With expert surgical technique and proper post-operative care, patients often regain functional central vision.

Every delicate maneuver inside the eye is guided by precision and compassion - to restore clarity where it matters most.
